The JCOPE2 forecast system has been modified as: 1) Use of Mellor-Yamada-Nakanishi-Niino-Furuichi's mixed layer model (Nakanishi and Niino, 2009; Furuichi et al. 2012) instead of the original Mellor-Yamada-Blumberg's model (Mellor and Blumberg 2004), 2) A change of the short-wave radiation calculation algorithm, 3) Inclusion of the Stoke drift shear TKE production (Tamura et al. 2012), and 4) Use of the surface momentum flux bulk formula with the surface wind relative to the surface ocean current (Tsujino et al. 2013; Mellor and Blumberg 2004), based on the validation of the model products using the VOS Nippon data

The JCOPE2 forecast system has been modified to include assimilation of HaiYang-2A in addition to the SARAL/Altika, Cryosat-2, and Jason-2 altimeters data.

The JCOPE2 forecast system has been modified (1) to include assimilation of SARAL/Altika and Cryosat-2 altimeters data in addition to Jason-2 data, (2) to include assimilation of MODIS-SST data, and (3) to add a constraint of the 3D-VAR formulation for better representation of oceanic conditions in the Kuroshio-Oyashio mixed water region.
