The JCOPE2 forecast system has been modified (1) to implement a 3DVAR cost function with the anisotropic shape, (2) to introduce a flow dependent background error covariance, and (3) to rearrenge the EOF modes for better representation of oceanic conditions in the Kuroshio-Oyashio mixed water region.
