地球温暖化予測研究領域の成果を報告する真鍋領域長 Dr. Manabe, Program Director, presenting the results of the Global Warming Research Program 国際北極圏研究センターの成果を報告する池田プログラムディレクター Dr.Ikeda,Program Director,reporting the research outcomes of the International Arctic Research Center 　松野太郎システム長に、"地球流体における波動及び波と流れの相互作用の理論への基本的貢献"に対して、アメリカ気象学会より1999年「ロスビー研究メダル」が授与されました。授与式は、平成11年１月13日にアメリカのダラスで開催されたアメリカ気象学会第79回総会にて行われました。 　「ロスビー研究メダル」とは、アメリカ気象学会が、大気の構造や現象の解明において目覚ましい貢献を遂げた大気科学者に贈る最高の賞で、1951年から毎年１名に授与されています。これまでに日本人では荒川昭夫氏（1977年、現カリフォルニア大学名誉教授）、都田菊郎氏（1991年、現ジョージメイソン大学教授）、真鍋淑郎氏（1992年、現地球フロンティア研究システム地球温暖化予測研究領域長）の３名の方が受賞されており、松野システム長は４人目の受賞者となります。 Dr. Taroh Matsuno, Director-General of the Frontier Research System for Global Change, was awarded the Carl Gustaf Rossby Medal by the American Meteorological Society for his "fundamental contributions to the theory of waves and wave flow interaction in geophysical systems". Dr. Matsuno received the Medal at the formal presentation at the Annual Awards Banquet during the 79th Annual Meeting of the Society held from January 10 to 15,1999,Dallas, Texas. The Carl Gustaf Rossby Medal is presented to individuals on the basis of outstanding contributions to the understanding of the structure or behavior of the atmosphere. It represents the highest honor that the Society can bestow upon an atmospheric scientist. The Medal is awarded to one individual each year since 1951.Dr Matsuno is the fourth winner of the Medal from Japan, following Dr. Akio Arakawa, Emeritus Professor at University of California at Los Angeles (awarded 1977); Dr. Kikuro Miyakoda, Professor of George Mason University (1991); and Dr. Shukuro Manabe, Director of Global Warming Research Program of FRSGC. 松野システム長に授与されたロスビーメ ダルと賞状 The Rossby Medal and the certificate of merit awarded to Dr.Matsuno, Director-General
