地球観測フロンティア研究システムの観測研究員の公募 Announcement of Research Positions for the Frontier Observational Research System for Global Change (FORSGC)
海洋科学技術センターでは、平成11年８月１日より開始予定の「地球観測フロンティア研究システム」に参加する観測研究員を募集中です。緊急の課題とされている地球温暖化などの気候変動の予測を実現するためには、地球を一つのシステムとして捉え、観測とシミュレーションの高度化によって大気、海洋、雪氷、陸域、生態系の間の複雑な相互作用を解明することが必要です。
地球観測フロンティア研究システムは、流動研究員制度と観測技術員制度を活用することによって、既存の観測研究を有機的に結び付けるとともに、長期的観測データの乏しい領域において関係省庁・大学等と協力して機動的に観測研究を行います。これによって、地球シミュレータによるシミュレーションの高度化、全球的な観測システムの構築に貢献することを目的とします。
今回は、その第一次募集として、本年度から開始する「気候変動観測研究領域」、「水循環変動観測研究領域」の２領域において、国内（東京本部拠点）及び北極圏国際研究センター（アラスカ）で観測研究を行う者について十数名程度の契約研究員を募集します。
なお、募集案内を国内外の関係の大学、研究機関に広く配布するとともに、インターネット上でも募集中です。
採用対象となる研究領域及び採用予定人数
(1)気候変動観測研究領域（今回の募集人数5〜6名）
(2)水循環変動観測研究領域（今回の募集人数5〜6名）
(3)国際北極圏研究センターにおける研究

The Japan Marine Science and Technology Center (JAMSTEC) invites application for the positions of observational researchers who will take part in the Frontier Observational Research System for Global Change (FORSGC), being established on August 1,1999.
In order to realize prediction of climate change,such as a pressing issue of global warming, etc. it is necessary for us to understand the complicated interactions among the atmospheric, ocean, ice, land and ecosystem, regarding the earth as one system, and advancing both of the observations and the simulations.
Taking advantage of a flexible employment system, the FORSGC will connect existing organic observation projects and make observations in the area lacking in long term observation data, in cooperation with relevant ministries and universities. With these implementations, we aim at advancing simulation by the Earth Simulator, and at deploying a global observation system.
We will invite applications for contracted researchers for the two research programs of "Climate Variation Research Program" and "Hydrological Cycle Research Program" starting this year. The researchers will be engaged in observational research at the Research Center in Tokyo and the International Arctic Research Center (IARC). We can also collect the candidates on our homepage, and we distribute this announcement among relevant universities and institutes.

of this time are:

(2)Hydrological Cycle Research Program (five to six)
(3)Research at the International Arctic Research Center (five to six)

全地球気候モデリング専門家の公募 Announcement of Research Positions for the Experts on Modeling of Global Climate 地球フロンティア研究システムでは、大学／大学院で気象学、海洋学、流体力学、応用数学、コンピュータサイエンスなどに関係する分野を専攻し、気候モデリング全般に興味と関心のある方および個別過程の専門家で全球モデルの作成・改良に意欲を持つ方を求めています。特に気候モデリングの経験を持ち、次世代の進んだモデルを開発しようという意欲のある方を優遇します。

FRSGC is seeking highly motivated researchers who have specialized in meteorology, oceanography, fluid dynamics, applied mathematics or computer science in under-graduate or graduate schools and who have strong interest in climate modeling or have special knowledge on specific processes and motivation to develop and improve the models. Those who have experiences in climate modeling and innovative ideas and motivations for "next-generation" modeling are most welcome.
