Air quality change and tropospheric photochemical processes in East Asia

In order to clarify the processes of air quality change in East Asia, observation of ozone and carbon monoxide in continental China, and analysis of their temporal and spatial variability will be made by global and regional models. Intensive campaigns including OH/HO2 radicals will be implemented at different characteristic atmosphere, and theoretical validation of tropospheric photochemistry and assessment of photochemical reactivity of the atmosphere will be made.

Emission inventories of greenhouse gasses and ozone/aerosol precursors in Asia

Future emissions of greenhouse gases e.g. carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and aerosol/ozone precursors e.g. nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds (VOC), elemental carbon etc. in Asia are estimated for the year 2000-2020. Particularly, detailed socio-economic data in China will be obtained to make more reliable estimate of future emissions.
