Every forest scene is defined within 30x30m area. The canopy and stem are represented by geometric objects. The canopy was expressed as ellipsoids or cones and stem was expressed as cylinders.
Branch-dominant area was modeled as a small ellipsoid in the canopy object, with half radii in both vertical and horizontal directions. Leaf area density (LAD) and bark area density (BAI) within the turbid canopy and branch media were assumed to be spatially uniform. A spherical leaf angle distribution was also assumed, and the forest floor of broad-leaved vegetation was expressed as a plane-parallel medium.
