Overview
To examin restoration process of marine and fishing ground environments, current measurements and water quality surveys are carried out in bays of Sanriku coast. These measuremets and surveys will let us understand the flow field in the bays and clarify influence of the flow field on spatio-temporal variations of the marine and fishing ground environments there.

Results and Future Plan
There was a heavy rain in bays of Sanriku coast during the periods from summer to fall 2013, and this rain increased river run-off there. This river run-off during the rainy period drove estuarine circulation and influenced water quality in the bays. Particularly, in Shidugawa Bay, dissolved oxygen in the bottom layer of inner bay was lower than that in 2012. The generation of this lower dissolved oxygen water was closely related to the primary production enhanced by the river run-off. In Onagawa Bay, similar lower dissolved oxygen water was found in the bottom layer of inner bay, and the influences of the rain were confirmed there. This suggests that the generation of this water is also related to the lower trophic ecosystem in Onagawa Bay. In the bays, intrusion of oceanic water was found in winter 2013. Particularly, in Onagawa Bay, there were oceanic water intrusions not only on seasonal timescale but also with periods shorter than 30 days. There is a possibility that nutrient transport from outside to inside of the bay is accompanied by the intrusions with periods shorter than 30 days as well as on seasonal timescale and that this short-term nutrient transport influences both the lower trophic ecosystem and fishery in the bay.
