Field survey
Overview
We examined seasonal variations in water environment, and phyto- and zooplankton in Okirai Bay and Ofunato Bay to estimate the impact of the 2011 disaster and monitor its recovery process. In addition, we investigated bottom sediments of Okirai Bay in summer.

Overview of the Observation

Research Point Map & Track Chart Map & Point List
Results and Future Plan
Water environment: After the 2011 disaster, the increase in bottom DO and the decrease in P/Si were observed in Ofunato Bay. Bottom sediments: In Okirai Bay, no differences were found in mud content, ignition loss, COD and total sulfide between the pre- and post-disaster periods. Zooplankton: After the disaster, the pelagic jellyfish Aglantha digitale increased in the head of Ofunato Bay.
