OverviewPeriodical surveys at one or two representative sites will be carried out at the seagrass beds and Sargassum beds in Onagawa Bay. Purpose of the surveys is to show the current environmental condition of the marine forests in Onagawa Bay through the examination of accompanying animals and plant biomass in the marine forests.

Results and Future PlanFirst survey was conducted at Takeno-ura in November 2016. Four quadrats of 50 cm x 50 cm were placed at each of Sargassum bed and seagrass bed. Biomass was 152 gdw / m2 in the Sargassum bed and 12 gdw / m2 in the seagrass bed (underground occupied 17%).
