Research Information

Period and Interval
2015/04/01 - 2016/03/31
Every one hour monitoring.
Research Area
Off Nagasaki in the southern part of Otsuchi Bay, Iwate Prefecture
Category
Mooring system(Observation buoy)
Overview
A GPS wave buoy with an anemometer and a profiling buoy are moored off Nagasaki on the southern coast of Otsuhi Bay to observe surface wind and waves, and the water property (water temperature, salinity, and nitrate concentration) at the surface (3 m depth) and bottom (35 m depth) layers every one hour, respectively.

Results and Future Plan
Surface wind and waves and water temperature, salinity and nitrate concentration at the surface and bottom layers were monitored every hour off Nagasaki in the southern part of Otsuchi Bay. The data were delivered over the internet in real-time.

Investigation Item and Data Acquisition

Investigation ItemData Acquisition
Measurement of surface wind by an ultrasonic anemometer10 minutes average of wind speed and direction
Measurement of surface waves by a single mode GPS wave sensor20 minutes wave statistics (Maximum, 1/10 maximum and significant wave heights, and related wave periods and directions)
Measurement of water property at surface and bottom layersOne minute average of water temperature, salinity and nitrate concentration
