Research Purpose

  • The Earth is a nonlinear system, which evolves responding to various influences from the outside as well as the deep interior of the Earth. We study the mutual interaction between various processes in this complex system, aiming at revealing the mechanism underlying the evolution and the dynamics of the Earth system.

Space and Earth System Modeling Research Team

  • Space and Earth System Modeling Research Team studies the complicated interaction between the different layers of the Earth system in terms of the state-of-the-art numerical simulations, the observations and the experiments, aiming at understanding the mechanism of the large-scale variations of the earth system. The sensitivity of climate on cosmic ray and solar irradiance, as well as the extinct process caused by celestial body impact is investigated. We also study the thermal and mechanical interactions, the material circulations at the core-mantle boundary (CMB) and the earth's surface, and the physical and chemical effects of water transported into the deep interior of the earth due to the plate subduction, on mantle convection and geo-dynamo process using geophysical observations, numerical modeling and laboratory experiments.
