Ocean General Circulation Observational Research Program

>>Researchers

The ocean covers over 70% of the earth surface and plays a central role in the global climate change by means of great capacity to store and transport heat and materials.

In this program, we conduct observational research based on high accuracy and land-to-land hydrographic observations to clarify basin scale heat, fresh water and material transport by the ocean general circulation and their variability. We also carry out observations of water properties and velocities of the Kuroshio and the Kuroshio Extension in order to investigate influence of variability of the current path, mass and heat transport of the Kuroshio on distribution of heat and materials in the North Pacific Ocean.
