At JAMSTEC, we conduct research on the deep sea and make marine observations using manned submersibles, unmanned remote-operated vehicles, and ocean investigation ships. We also own and provide large shared experiment facilities such as hyperbaric chambers and ultrasonic tanks. The Research Support Department is in charge of operating and maintaining ships and large shared experiment facilities and for supporting the center's observations and ocean research.
