GRANTS to Assist Attendance

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

THE DEADLINE FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS EXPIRED.
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!

The IUGG2003 Local Organizing Committee, IUGG, and the seven Associations are working together to offer a limited number of financial assistance grants to support participation at the IUGG 2003 General Assembly. An application for a grant can only be made by persons who have submitted one or more abstracts to the scientific program. Financial assistance funds are limited. Most awards will be for the registration fee only. It is unlikely that full support will be possible.

THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF GRANT APPLICATIONS IS THE SAME AS FOR THE SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS: JANUARY 30, 2003.

Applications should only be sent to the IUGG2003 Secretariat at Independent Administrative Institution, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. Grant applications should not be sent directly to the convener or co-convener of a symposium or workshop, nor to an officer of the Union or an Association.

Note that IAMAS restricts its grants to applicants from needy countries [see http://iamas.org].

HOW DECISIONS ARE MADE:
All decisions regarding awards for Association Symposia will be made by the Association.
All decisions regarding awards for inter-Association Symposia will be negotiated between/among the co-sponsoring Associations.
All decisions regarding Union Symposia will be made by the Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee, with the advice of the IUGG Secretary General.
If two or more authors of one abstract request assistance, priority will be given to the presenting author. The first author listed will be considered the presenting author unless otherwise indicated.
All applications for financial assistance will be decided by April 7, 2003. All awards will be distributed at the Local Organizing Committee office in Sapporo, Japan.
