Research Scientist Position Kochi Institute for Core Sample Research

   The Kochi Institute for Core Sample Research, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (KOCHI/JAMSTEC), is seeking applicants to fill a research position. This position will begin in September 2007 as a one-year appointment with continuation possible for up to five fiscal years. The successful candidate will be involved in a research group that focuses on understanding the processes and mechanisms associated with earthquake rupture and propagation, particularly at drillable depths. Although the candidate is expected to participate in all aspects of the [Earthquake drilling] project, an expertise in experimental studies is particularly valuable.

Kochi Institute for Core Sample Research, JAMSTEC, at Nankoku, Kochi, Japan

Contract Period

From September 1, 2007.
Employment contract is renewable every Japanese fiscal year (April to March). The duration of employment is expected to be 5 fiscal years(until March 31, 2012).

Terms of employment

(1) Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTECs bylaws, taking career and working ability into consideration (annual salary system).
(2) Moving Expenses will be provided.
(3) The participant and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for insurance and labor insurance according to the current statutory proportion.
(4) Housing subsidies are available.
(5) Other: There are various kinds of subsidies available for personal interests/welfare provided by JAMSTEC's employees' cooperative.
