Training & Education Services
The Independent Administrative Institution, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) has provided training and education services for divers since 1974. The main objective was to disseminate the technological results of the "SEATOPIA Project"(including submarine inhabitability experiments conducted by divers at the depths of 30m and 60m, and a saturation diving experiment made by divers living in a submarine boat at the depth of 100m) and the "NEW SEATOPIA Project" (saturation diving experiments made at the depth range of 200m to 300m), for which the Diving Technology Department made R&D efforts. In these activities, the JAMSTEC has trained many divers in various courses by using the ordinary diving equipment, diving simulators, training pools, accommodations, etc., including scuba diving as well as deep-sea diving by using helium gas. Recently, the Center's Public Relations, Training and Education Division has organized also a special scuba diving training course for divers, and a diving work management course for managers.
