Equipment and
system used in deep sea have to resist the high pressure(100`1000 atm ) and contain power
sources. Data transfer may be carried out using acoustic signals.
The Deep Sea Technology Department, our department's predecessor,
was founded in 1987 to respond to these specialized needs. After
the development of Deep Sea Research Submersibles such as "SHINKAI
6500" and related technology, the high technology cultivated
in deep sea was applied to all areas of oceanographic research.
In 1998, the department was given its current name - the Marine
Technology Department. As the new title suggests, the research
scope of the Marine Technology Department has expanded to cover
all marine environments.
We are currently conducting research and development in areas
such as the Deepwater Riser Drillship, the Autonomous-navigation
Unmanned Vehicle, Ocean Observation Buoys, and Wave Energy Device. |
