Research vessels To contribute to clarifying environmental changes, earthquakes, and Tsunami, and to the improvement of resource exploration technology, seven research vessels are operated to support the activities of researchers.
Deep ocean investigation system To investigate marine geology, terrain, and life of the deep ocean floor, Manned Research Submersible SHINKAI 6500 and Deep-Sea Cruising AUV have been operated. Autonomous ocean observation robots have been operated as well.
Ocean observational system
The TRITON array have been moored in the western tropical Pacific Ocean and the eastern Indian Ocean, telemetering oceanographic and meteorological data. OBS units also have been placed on the ocean bottom to observe artificial seismic waves.
