License Agreement



XML-SEED data and Tools (hereinafter called "This Software") is a software package developed by Institute for Frontier Research on Earth Evolution, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, and you can use it only when you agree to the following clauses. When you use this software, it is assumed that you have agreed to the following clauses. Therefore, please read the following clauses carefully before using it.

Clause 1 (License and copyright)
IFREE/JAMSTEC holds the exclusive right and the copyright to this software itself, although the user holds the title to the medium in which this software is recorded.

Clause 2 (Prohibition and limitation)
IFREE/JAMSTEC has the right to prohibit and limit the following matters when the user uses this software, and it also has the right to prohibit and limit to have other unauthorized parties carry out the following matters:

  • Modification and decompilation, disassembly, and reverse engineering of this software.

  • Reproduction, alteration, excision and other modification of the related materials such as the document manual and so on.

  • Making public and sublicensing the software, or renting, assigning or selling the reproduced copies without prior permission.

  • Making a secondary work based on the content of this software.

  • Reproduction or use of this software in contradiction to the conditions for using this software.


Clause 3 (Indemnification)
IFREE/JAMSTEC shall never be liable to the user for any direct or indirect, derivative or incidental damages arising out of or in connection with the use of this software or an inability to use this software (including but not limited to any damaged data, lost operating profits, interruption of businesses and lost business information) irrespective of whether they are ordinary or extraordinary damages, even if the Institute has been advised in advance of the possible occurrence of such damages or the possible claims for compensation from third parties.

Clause 4 (About redistribution)
The user basically is permitted to redistribute this software, provided that the following provisions are strictly observed:

  • Distribute the software in the form of the original product with the accompanying document attached.

  • Do not redistribute in any way in exchange for money, unless you charge the actual cost for the recording media and so on.

  • Ensure to report to this laboratory in advance, when you want to distribute this software for commercial purposes and so on.


Clause 5 (General)
This software is protected in accordance with the Japanese Copyright Law and the pertinent international treaties.
