RIGC Workshop on Observational Network on Terrestrial Cryosphere
March 23-25 , 2010, Yokohama, Japan

RIGC's Northern Hemisphere Cryosphere Program has been carrying out an observational network mainly in Northern Eurasiain order to detect the global change over this region, and we have been finding many changes with different scales of time and space, especially over Arctic region. We think it is a time for us to sit down together with representatives of the related institutions and discuss on our existing observational network for better and smoother operations. The purposes of the WS will be:

1) to review on the scientific results using the observational networks,
2) to discuss on the goals and systems of JAMSTEC's long term observational networks, and
3) to make a better management of the networks for the observational studies.

In the WS, we will discuss on the scientific goals utilizing the networks and to build up the better infrastructure for the future networks, especially, cooperation among the institutions, capacity building and management of data archives. At the beginning of the workshop planning, we were thinking to invite from many delegates from institutions of Mongolia, Yakutsk, Moscow and Alaska. During the preparation, we have realized that the time for the preparation and travel funds for the invited were limited, and then, we were forced to limit the area of discussion to Mongolia and Altai region and the number of people invited. However, we want to discuss on the above written goals with the participants as densely as we can. We would like to ask your cooperation for the success of the workshop.
