Marine Biology and Ecology Research

Program director MARUYAMA, Tadashi

Marine environment is a largest space in the biosphere, and contains many kinds of habitats created by physicochemical factors, such like water current, depth, seafloor geography, geological settings and chemical composition of seawater. The marine ecosystem has been maintained past 3.5 billion years, while the structures continuously changed and involved various interactions between organisms and environmental constrains. To study such bio-complexity of marine ecosystem, multidisciplinary approach from biology, ecology, oceanography and even geology are needed. This research program is going to search a plenty of empirical evidence and would like to provide logical interpretations to understand the marine ecosystem.
