What is the Site-specific Ground Motion Project?

The Site-specific Ground Motions Project aims to evaluate Site-specific Ground Motions of large earthquakes using sophisticated seismic wave propagation simulations. Data from this project is used for improving design and establishing implementation policies of important constructions.
In this web page, the databases of crustal structure models of oceanic and terrestrial areas are available. These databases can be used for large-scale parallel finite element method code E-wave FEM to simulate the seismic wave propagations.

VAi(Value-Added-Information Generation)

VAi aims to contribute to the resolution of policy issues and the development of a sustainable socio-economic system by creating and disseminating information that meets various needs.

  • Evaluation of Site-specific Ground Motions of large earthquakes:
E-wave FEM (NAMR) simulation outputs the expected ground motion at the specific location of the important structure based on the predicted scenario of earthquake. The simulation uses the secondary data (4DVE) processed from the primary database of crustal observations. This service is provided to infrastructure companies as an advanced technology for evaluating the seismic resistance of important structures, and to public organizations (e.g., Cabinet Office Disaster Management) as an advanced technology for evaluating wide-area seismic motions.

Role of NAMR

NAMR is Numerical Analysis Method Repository. (Numerical analysis methods: artificial intelligence, sparse modeling, finite element method, particle method, verification method)
