Chemical Oceanographic data sets in the North Pacific

The Marine Biogeochemical Cycle Research Team has conducted research concerned with the interactions between climate variability and changes in marine ecosystem dynamics and biogeochemical cycles. In the Western North Pacific, we established two time-series stations, one in the western subarctic gyre (station K2: 47°N, 160°E) and the other in the subtropical gyre (station S1: 30°N, 145°E). In 2010 we began using the R/V Mirai to conduct a time-series comparative study of stations K2 and S1.

We compile data obtained at stations KNOT (44N, 155E) and K2 (47N, 160E) by JAMSTEC, in order to investigate the temporal variation of dissolved inorganic carbon and related properties in the subarctic western North Pacific.

The objective of this study is to clarify temporal changes in water properties of abyssal water in the western North Pacific by means of moored CTD/O2 observations. The time series data will be used to evaluate sampling error caused by short-term temperature fluctuation for the estimation of bottom water warming in recent decades derived from land-to-land repeat hydrographic data, and to monitor long-term fluctuation of water properties of the abyssal water.

This is JAMSTEC KEO Sediment Trap data (32°22’N/144°25’E, water depth:~5900m). Data are served as “.xlsx” format and netCDF format (“.nc”) following OceanSITES protocol.

We had made time-series observations of ²³⁴Th and POC in the North Pacific. In this dataset, we present vertical profiles of ²³⁴Th, POC, PON, and Chlorophyll a in the North Pacific.

The sediment trap experiments and in situ filtration were carried out in the western North Pacific from autumn 2010 to spring 2012. In this dataset, we present the radioactivities of ¹³⁴Cs and ¹³⁷Cs in the sinking and suspended particles in the western North Pacific.

We determined ²³⁰Th and ²³¹Pa in the sinking particles collected by the sediment traps in 2005-2008 in the subarctic western North Pacific. In this dataset, we present total mass flux, excess ²³⁰Th flux, and excess ²³¹Pa flux in the subarctic western North Pacific.

We determined ²²⁸Ra and ²²⁶Ra radioactivities of the surface water in the northwestern North Pacific and Okhotsk Sea from January to June 2000. This dataset is presented the surface distributions of ²²⁸Ra and ²²⁶Ra in this region.

Carbon Time-series data obtained from sampling weekly and sensor observation hourly at Sekinehama Port on the Mutsu Institute for Oceanography.

Water sampling with Niskin bottle and CTD sensor were performed from the sea surface to the seafloor along the observation line across the Tsugaru Strait. Water samples were collected and measured for salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, dissolved inorganic carbon, total alkalinity, ¹⁸O and chlorophyll a.
