DONET2 installation has been completed and the management of DONET has been transferred from JAMSTEC to NIED

2016/04/28

DONET2 installation has been completed during Expedition KS-16-J02 that was conducted from January 27, 2016 to March 1, 2016. Twenty-nine observatories of DONET2 were planned to be deployed in the fiscal year 2015 and all 29 observatories have been activated successfully as planned. Also, an additional observatory was connected with DONET1. As a result, a total of 50 observatories are currently working around the Nankai trough and the data are being provided to associated institutions for disaster prevention and mitigation. Figure 1 shows the present situation of DONET.

In addition, the management of DONET has been transferred from JAMSTEC to National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED) since April 2016. JAMSTEC, however, will continue the support for the maintenance and extension of DONET.
