Workshop on Tropical Precipitation Systems 2014

The objective of the workshop is to allow researchers in the fields of modeling, observational research, and theoretical research to exchange views and ideas pertaining to the study of tropical precipitation systems. This workshop includes discussions from a crosscutting perspective regarding future strategies for promoting project-driven or mission-driven research activities conducted at JAMSTEC, by sharing common awareness of the issues we are facing. The workshop consists of presentations by invited speakers and mid-career/young researchers. We welcome graduate students, postdocs, experts, and any other interested participants.

Common themes

  • Tropical intra-seasonal/seasonal phenomena (MJO, ISV, tropical cyclone, monsoon, equatorial waves)
  • Short-term climate variability (ENSO, IOD)
  • Ocean-atmosphere interaction
  • Meso-scale processes

The workshop this year highlights the following two key topics:

  • THEME A - High-resolution modeling/prediction for tropical sub-seasonal to seasonal phenomena
  • THEME-B - MJO modeling

Invited speakers

  • We-Yih Sun, Purdue University
  • Wen-wen Tung, Purdue University
