Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (hereafter JAMSTEC; Mr. Yasuhiro Kato, President) will hold the annual contest, "Draw Your Dreams of the Ocean on a Postcard", for elementary school children in Japan.

As nation's interest for global warming, natural disaster and environmental destruction are increasing lately, JAMSTEC is conducting foundational research and development such as observation research, prediction research and technical development and so on from the aspect of the ocean having great impact on the entire globe, and is working hard to contribute to people's lives through publication, diffusion and enlightenment activities of those results. We hope this contest, in which children draw pictures of their yearnings or dreams for the ocean will inspire children's interest in the ocean and be a motive to learn more about the ocean in school.

Application period of this contest is from November 30, 2006 to January 31, 2007.

Until now, the contest was for hand-drawn pictures only, but works with computers are welcomed this time, since computer graphics category has been created, considering personal computers are commonly used in elementary schools now.
