Manned Research Submersible "SHINAKI 6500"
~Just Started 1,000th Dive~

The Manned Research Submersible "SHINKAI 6500" *1 of the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC: Yasuhiro Kato, President) can dive to the deepest depth in the world as a manned submersible, has been diving for 17 years since its first dive in June, 1990. Today, we are pleased to announce that the "SHINKAI 6500" has started its 1,000th dive.

About 1,000th Dive

Start time: 10:15 AM
Diving area: Hatoma Knoll off Ishigaki Island, Okinawa Prefecture
Maximum diving depth : 1,500m
Pilot: Yoshitaka Sasaki
Co-pilot: Tetsuya Komuku
Guest: Mr. Kazuma Yamane *2

Purpose:

Along with the training dive for crew members of the "SHINKAI 6500" to improve their skills, a non-fiction writer Mr. Kazuma Yamane is going to experience the 1,000th dive as our public relations activity. Mr. Yamane will talk about this dive at the lecture planning on March 28 (see *2 for details).
