The symposium will be held as follows, which aims to give general public a broad understanding of this research team’s purposes.

This symposium would develop public understanding of research activities at the Application Laboratory by presenting the research results on seasonal and interannual climate prediction and air pollution prediction, and delivering lectures on interactions between climate and society/ economy. It would also help to considerate future direction of the Application Laboratory by exchanging views with people in industries that are possible user of our climate research results.

*Application Laboratory

Application Laboratory has been established in April, 2008 as a research team aiming to realize innovation through mutual enlightening and sustainable cooperation between research study and society. One of challenges to take is seasonal and interannual climate prediction. Since El Niño and Indian Ocean Dipole play big roles in occurrence of anomaly increase and decrease of temperature or flood and drought, months or years prior prediction shall contribute to variety of fields such as social security and safety, agriculture and fishery industries, people’s health and water-resource management.

In this symposium, JAMSTEC’s research works will be introduced and people from industries and organizations who are deeply involved in climate are expected to participate in and exchange views on what type of predict information about climate change would contribute the most to our daily life.
