Deep-sea R/V Kairei to Conduct Seismic Survey off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake

Deep-Sea Research Vessel Kairei, operated by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, will conduct a seismic survey off the Pacific coast of north-east Japan (Appendix). Beginning on March 15th, the operations include; deployment of ocean bottom seismometers (OBS), seismic reflection profiling, and topography measurement by a multi-beam echo sounder. The Kairei has set sail from the JAMSTEC Yokosuka Headquarters on March 14th.

The survey is part of the program launched following the "2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake" and is assisted by the Grant-in-Aid for Special Purposes of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology,
