The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (hereafter referred to as "JAMSTEC") has been established, based on the principle of peace and welfare, to advance marine science and technology, and to contribute to enhancing academic research through comprehensively conducting fundamental research and development and cooperating with academic research in the oceans. (Article 4 of the Law concerning Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology)
With this in mind, engaged in research activities at JAMSTEC in the belief that discovering new truths, we have the responsibility to contribute to welfare of humankind, public security and sustainable global environment through our knowledge and skills.
Needless to say, research activities shall be conducted based on each researcher’s integrity and self-discipline, and no dishonesty in any research activity shall be tolerated. In the modern world of high impact science activities and its results, researchers should act on the ethical judgment at any time.
Recognizing the above, the "Code of Conduct for Research Activities" is instituted to establish the ethic of self-discipline.
