2024.09.19

Dr. Swadhin K. Behera, Principal Researcher and Director of the Applications Lab in the Value-Added Information Generation Division, was elected a 2024 Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

This is in recognition of his significant advances and exemplary contributions in the earth sciences, particularly for his significant contributions to the discovery and prediction of several key climate phenomena, including the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), ENSO Modoki, Ningaloo Niño, and the Indian Ocean Subtropical Dipole (IOSD).

AGU is the world's largest geophysical society, with approximately 60,000 members in 140 countries. Since 1962, less than 0.1% of AGU members have been selected as Fellows by the AGU Union Fellows Committee for their contributions to earth and planetary science.

The award ceremony and banquet will be held on Wednesday, December 11, at AGU's Fall Meeting in Washington, D.C.

The announcement was made on the AGU website on September 18, 2024.
