Visit of JAMSTEC by chair and speakers of “Digital Twins of Ocean” session at STS forum on October 4

2024.10.18

On October 4, 2024, the chair and speakers of the session themed ”Digital Twins of Ocean” at STS forum 2024 visited the Yokosuka Headquarters of JAMSTEC. The STS forum 2024, the 21st Annual Meeting of the Science and Technology in Society forum, was held in Kyoto from October 6 to 8.

Prior to the discussion at the STS forum, the guests shared information and exchanged views with JAMSTEC participants about the development of Digital Twins of Ocean and its challenges at research institutes in various countries. The “Digital Twin of the Ocean” is a highly accurate computer-based reproduction of the ocean, and is being discussed for research and development in various regions, countries, and institutions around the world as a tool for understanding the current status of the ocean, predicting its future, and evaluating the effects of various ocean-related measures. The knowledge and networks gained from this event is useful for the future development of JAMSTEC’s “Digital Twin of the Ocean”. JAMSTEC will continue to cooperate with other research agencies and institutes in developing Digital Twins of Ocean.

The guests also visited the research vessel SHINSEI MARU and exhibition facilities.
