| Job Description | The Research Center for Environmental Modeling and Application (CEMA, Director: Michio Kawamiya), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC), Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) is recruiting Senior Researcher, Researcher, or Researcher (II) for the following research. [Research Description] CEMA conducts research to understand and predict global environmental system dynamics using numerical simulation as a central approach. We are seeking a researcher to develop and apply simulation models for the acquisition of scientific knowledge that will address current gaps and lead to new developments related to aspects of Earth science, such as climate change projection at various time scales, the reproduction, and prediction of extreme weather events (e.g., typhoons and torrential rains, and paleoclimate reconstruction. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research using one or more of the following methods: 1. High-resolution atmospheric and oceanic simulation models to project future weather and climate systems, along with their dynamics; 2. Earth system models that include biogeochemical processes (e.g., carbon cycle) to project global environmental dynamics; 3. Other self-developed simulation models to investigate climate formation processes. 4. Researcher (Technology): Researcher (Technology) is expected to conduct fundamental, originative, or advanced technology development and related research. [Position] Senior Researcher: Senior Researcher is expected to produce satisfactory results and provide appropriate advice and recommendations on decisions that require a high level of expertise as a core member of our research and technology development activities. Researcher: Researcher is expected to further accumulate and develop its own expertise, and to continuously create and publish the results of their main papers and technology development as a dedicated researcher. | Working Conditions & Contract Period | (1) Number of positions: 1 position for Senior Researcher, Researcher or Researcher (II) (2) Type of contract: Tenure-track fixed-term employee (3) Working Hours: Discretionary labor system (4) Contract Period: Period of employment is from October 1, 2023 to March 31, 2028 *Effective date of employment is negotiable. *One contract period is a maximum of five fiscal years. The contract period will not be renewed. *In accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws, on reaching the age of 65 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change. *After undergoing an evaluation during the period of employment, the contract may be modified to one without termination (termination of employment would be at the end of the fiscal year in which the employee reaches the age of 60, or the age of 65 if the employee is rehired after their retirement). | Terms of Employment | (1) Upon appointment, the successful candidate will receive relocation allowances in accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws. (2) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided. (3) Employee and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for social insurance and labor insurance in the proportion specified by current statute. (4) JAMSTEC employee cooperative provides various subsidies for mutual aid and welfare services. (5) Housing lease service will be available in accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws. (6) Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end, and New Year's holidays.
