Available Position JAMSTEC is recruiting one position as a Project Researcher (Ⅱ). (AGS21-024)
Recruiting
Department
Marine Ecosystem Research Group, Earth Surface System Research Center (ESS), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC)
Job Description The Marine Ecosystem Research Group, Earth Surface System Research Center (ESS) is soliciting applications for a Project Researcher (Ⅱ) to work on research funded by the Japan Society of Promotion of Science (JSPS) Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research -KAKENHI-, "Digital Biosphere: Integrated biosphere science for mitigating global environment change", Sub-Project "Analysis on feedback from ecosystem's environmental adaptation to climate by Earth System Model (FY2021 - FY2025, Co-investigator: Maki Noguchi Aita)".

[Research Description]
To quantify the response of marine ecosystems to environmental changes such as atmospheric CO2 concentrations, climate, and nutrient loading, and their feedbacks to climate, we are incorporating dynamic environment adaptation processes into ocean biogeochemical models.
In this project, we will improve and verify an ocean biogeochemical model while comparing the model results with observed and/or other simulated data. Eventually, these processes will be incorporated into the Earth System Model (ESM) developed by JAMSTEC to carry out sensitivity experiments and analyses. The successful candidate will be engaged in the following work:

(1) Improving the representation of dynamic adaptation processes in response to environmental changes (e.g., solar radiation, nutrients, and temperature) for ocean primary producers in the ocean part of the ESM.
(2) Numerical experiments using the ESM and/or global ocean biogeochemical models, and model validation using data observed by research vessels and/or remote-sensing data.
(3) Analyzing Multi-Earth System Model results for ecosystems’ environmental responses using the CMIP6 database.
(4) Preparing research reports and academic manuscripts.
