Available Position JAMSTEC is recruiting one position as a Postdoctoral Researcher. (CGP22-005)
Recruiting Department Earthquake and Tsunami Monitoring Group, Research and Development Center for Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting (FEAT), Research Institute for Marine Geodynamics (IMG)
Job Description The Earthquake and Tsunami Monitoring Group, Research and Development Center for Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting (FEAT; Director: Takane Hori), Research Institute for Marine Geodynamics (IMG) is soliciting applications for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher for a research project entitled "The development of analysis for monitoring current state and forecasting future process of subduction plates by using observational data and modeling of seismic activity and crustal deformation (FY2020-FY2025)".

[Research Description]
The mid- and long-term planning goals of the Earthquake and Tsunami Monitoring Group, R&D Center for Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting, have been encapsulated in the project "Development of analysis techniques for monitoring and forecasting plate subduction processes using observational data and modeling of seismic activity and crustal deformation".
The successful candidate will develop data analysis methods to quantify the spatiotemporal variation in interplate locking in and around subduction zones based on terrestrial and seafloor seismic observation data. Normal, low-frequency, and very low-frequency earthquake data will be analyzed. It is expected that data analysis methods will be developed to quantify seafloor crustal deformation, as detected by pressure gauges on the seafloor and/or boreholes. The successful candidate may also conduct research aimed at monitoring these types of seismic activities (and their focal mechanisms) based on seafloor seismic observation data, and customize available statistical analysis tools for maintenance operations.

Please refer to our website for details about the Research and Development Center for Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting.
