Available Position JAMSTEC is recruiting one position as a Postdoctoral Researcher. (CGP23-004)
Recruiting Department Earthquake and Tsunami Monitoring Group, Research and Development Center for Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting (FEAT), Research Institute for Marine Geodynamics (IMG)
Job Description The Earthquake and Tsunami Monitoring Group, Research and Development Center for Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting (FEAT; Director: Takane Hori), Research Institute for Marine Geodynamics (IMG) is soliciting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position for a research project entitled, “Analysis techniques for monitoring and forecasting plate subduction processes on the basis of seismic activity and crustal deformation modeling by using observational data (FY2020-FY2025)”.

[Research Description]
This research project encapsulates the mid- and long-term planning goals of the Earthquake and Tsunami Monitoring Group, R & D Center for Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting.

There is a high probability that megathrust earthquakes will occur along the Nankai Trough in the near future. This potential phenomenon is associated with a wide variety of research fields, from the perspectives of elucidating the earthquake generation process and disaster mitigation. The successful candidate will not be restricted to ongoing seafloor earthquake research, but will be expected to conduct cross-disciplinary research that may include any of the following:

(1) Monitoring seismic coupling conditions by estimating seismic activity, source processes, and stress fields related to normal and slow earthquakes based on real-time data observed by seismographs, hydrophones, and differential pressure gauges at the seafloor.
(2) Monitoring plate coupling through seafloor crustal deformation estimation and fault models related to normal and slow earthquakes based on real-time hydraulic pressure data observed at the seafloor and from boreholes.
(3) Developing and improving analytical techniques to remove the effects of artificial and oceanic disturbances in these data, and promoting high-precision monitoring through real-time processing.
