Available Position JAMSTEC is recruiting one position as a Postdoctoral Researcher. (AGP22-026)
Recruiting Department Arctic Geochemical Cycle Research Group, Institute of Arctic Climate and Environment Research (IACE), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC)
Job Description The Arctic Geochemical Cycle Research Group, Institute of Arctic Climate and Environment Research (IACE), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC) is hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on Japan Society of Promotion of Science (JSPS) Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research -KAKENHI-, "Digital Biosphere: Integrated biosphere science for mitigating global environment change", Sub-Project titled "Remote sensing of ecosystem structure, function, and biodiversity (FY2021-FY2025, PI: Hideki Kobayashi)".

[Research Description]
In this research project, the successful candidate will cooperate with other team members to use in-situ observations and remote sensing technologies for analysis of imaging spectrometer data (hyperspectral images) obtained using satellites and drones to investigate forest ecosystems. They will perform spatial mapping of plant functional trait information. The successful candidate will be engaged in the following research topics.

1. The successful candidate will participate in observation campaigns at Japanese sites (Hokkaido and Kanagawa prefectures), and collect drone- or tower-based imaging spectrometer data as well as various field data. These data will be used to analyze the relationships between hyperspectral signatures and plant traits. Our group has collected similar datasets at other sites (e.g., Alaskan boreal forests). The use of these existing data is encouraged.

2. Using satellite and other datasets, the successful candidate will perform large-scale estimation of ecosystem parameters such as plant functional traits, which are used for driving digital biosphere models. They will also investigate the geographical distributions of plant traits and their relationships with environmental factors.

*There may be a change in affiliation in the case of reorganization of the Agency.
