TRITON buoy sensors and data collection system

TRITON buoy is equipped with oceanographic and meteorological sensors (Fig. 1, Table 1, and Table 2). The sensors are selected for data compatibility with TAO sensors and for the reliability of long term measurements.
TRITON buoy data processing system consists of four units (physically four cylinders in the surface float): the data processor, the ARGOS transmitter, and the two battery units. Surface meteorology data go to the data processor and are stored internally. Underwater data are transmitted from each sensor to the data processor by an electromagnetic inductive coupling data communication method using an electric loop of wire cable and the seawater. The underwater data are also stored in each sensor package.
