Research Submersible Vessel SHINKAI 6500

  • SHINKAI 6500 is the only Manned Research Submersible in the world that can dive down to 6,500m deep to survey topography, marine geology and deep sea creatures on deep ocean floor.

Autonomous Underwater Vehicle URASHIMA

  • URASHIMA is the autonomous underwater vehicle that can cruise in the deep sea and conduct oceanographic observations.
  • In 2009, at the bottom of Southern Mariana Trough Area, three-dimension physical chemistry mapping by magnetometer, water sampling, and other sensing was were conducted around 3,000m deep.

Remotely Operated Vehicle KAIKO

  • KAIKO is the world's top-class remotely operated vehicle and can dive down to 7,000m deep. It's mission is to survey on the deep ocean floor, where terrain is complex and dangerous for manned research submersibles.

4,500m Class Remotely operated vehicle HYPER-DOLPHIN

  • HYPER-DOLPHIN is the remotely operated vehicle that can dive down to 4,500m deep. This ROV can take clear pictures of creatures and terrain with a high-definition camera and can collect rock and soil samples with manipulators.

Deep Ocean Floor Survey System DEEP TOW

  • DEEP TOW is a survey system towed by a cable extended from the research vessel that skims the ocean floor. It has a side scan sonar and a camera.

Marine Robot MR-X1

  • Marine Robot MR-X1 has been developed to conduct light work such as collecting instruments that are placed in the deep sea autonomously. It is designed to conduct oceanographic observations in the Arctic Ocean, where it is difficult for vessels to conduct surveys.

  • The small unmanned research vehicle PICASSO has been developed for the purpose of conducting biological surveys in the deep see.
  • It has a high-definition camera, an ocean scene investigation microscope, and a high-intensity light. It can take high-resolution pictures of creatures in the deep sea.

For Shallow Sea Hybrid type Unmanned Diving Equipment MROV

  • MROV, a simple diving device, has been developed with a private company. MROV can move widely horizontally, and it allows the efficient collection of data on temperatures, liquefied gases, and microbes in shallow seas.

  • Developed for earth science research, the remotely operated vehicle JINBEI can navigate underwater at a relatively high speed to conduct research over a wide area. It is programmed to navigate to the research area, and can undertake research automatically in line with the required mission
