Job Description | We are accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position related to the “Future projections of the boreal forest ecosystem: Transient biosphere responses to permafrost thaw (FY2025-FY2029 Principal Investigator: Hideki Kobayashi)” funded by the Japan Society of Promotion of Science (JSPS) Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research. The successful candidate will be involved in studies that contribute to the evaluation and improvement of future prediction models based on observational data collected in the field. [Research Description] (Immediately upon employment) In this project, we are collaborating with Japanese research institutions and the University of Alaska Fairbanks to conduct a permafrost thaw manipulation experiment in a boreal forest region near Fairbanks, Alaska, USA. This recruitment seeks a postdoctoral researcher to engage in integrative analysis of various observation datasets from the boreal forest region, including those from the ongoing permafrost thaw experiment, and contribute to near-future impact assessments using terrestrial biosphere models and related modeling frameworks. One or both of the following topics will be assigned. 1.Analysis of greenhouse gas flux dynamics induced by permafrost thaw, through comparison of observational data and model outputs 2.Integration of biosphere response mechanisms associated with permafrost thaw into terrestrial models, and execution of numerical experiments and model validation *We are planning to provide observational support for the permafrost thawing experiment currently underway in Alaska. (The scope of possible changes) The duties designated by JAMSTEC [Relevant Research Fields] Environmental Science, Climate Science, Data Science, Ecology, Biogeochemical Cycles, and related disciplines |
Job Type | Postdoctoral Researcher: To contribute to the project, a Postdoctoral Researcher should be able to independently conduct the research subjects which are authorized by the Project under direction of a leader, and to be appointed to improve their research qualities. |
