1961年、大阪府生まれ。北海道大学水産学部卒業後、同大学院水産化学研究科修士課程を修了し、1986年、海洋研究開発機構に入所。
1992年より1994年まで米ウッズホール海洋研究所の駐在員兼在外研究員。
専門は化学海洋学。自動試料採集装置やセンサーを海中に設置し北西部北太平洋の生物活動による二酸化炭素吸収能力の観測研究に従事。
博士(地球環境科学)。
