Research Information

Period and Interval
2012/11/01 - 2013/03/31
Research Area
Otsuchi Bay
Category
Mooring system(Observation buoy)
Overview
Mortar board and sporophyte of Undaria pinnatifida will be moored at 8 points in Otsuchi Bay during winter to spring. After mooring attached algae, which will be inhabited on the board and sporophyte of Undaria pinnatifida will be harvested for analyses of isotopic composition of carbon and nitrogen to examine origins of the elements. At selected 2 stations, temperature and salinity will be monitored.

Results and Future Plan
Mortar board and sporophyte of Undaria pinnatifida were moored at 8 points on 30 November. Because deployment of Undaria farming rafts by fisherman was delayed about one month by high water temperature during fall period, we followed their deployment. The system will be moored until middle of March 2013.Because harvest of Undaria by fisherman will start on 15 March, we finished mooring on 14 March. Though all mortar boards mooed at station 1 were lost, all of other mortar boards were collected from other stations. Mortar boards with attached algae and collected Undaria was kept -20 deg. C and archived in AORI.
