Overview
It is supposed that the tidal wetlands in Sendai Bay were contaminated by aromatic carbons and oils at the time of tsunami at 11/3/2011 earthquake. We intend to develop a biological monitoring system of pollution using a gene expression as a marker. We selected, cyp1a, which is known to be strongly activated by aromatic carbons as a marker gene to detect the pollution. Using this system, we test if the bottom of the tidal wetlands of Sendai Bay are polluted by aromatic carbons.

Results and Future Plan
It is supposed that the tidal wetlands in Sendai Bay were contaminated by aromatic carbons and oils at the time of tsunami at 11/3/2011 earthquake. We developed a biological monitoring system of pollution using a gene expression as a marker. We selected, cyp1a, which is known to be strongly activated by aromatic carbons as a marker gene to detect the pollution. Using this system, we tested if the bottom of the tidal wetlands of Sendai Bay are polluted by aromatic carbons. It was supposed that sediment of Gamo tidal flat is contaminated with some chemicals that activate cyp1a1 in larvae.
