Overview1. Examination of the fauna and flora of intertidal rocky shores in Onagawa Bay
(1) At the three intertidal rocky shore sites in Onagawa Bay, photos in each permanent quadrats in high, middle and low zones will be taken in the period of low tide of the spring tide. Community structures among tidal levels and among study sites will be compared. Temporal changes at each tidal level also will be monitored.
(2) In the period of low tide of the spring tide, photos of animals and algae will be taken at the three intertidal rocky shores sites in Onagawa Bay. Species list of animals and algae will be uploaded in TEAMS Biological Observation Record Archive System.
2. Quarterly surveys of Sargassum beds and seagrass beds
(1) Quarterly surveys of the community structure and biomass of Sargassum beds and seagrass beds will be conducted at two representative sites in Onagawa Bay.
(2) Aerial photos will be taken by a drone at the same time.
(3) Long term dynamics in the distribution and biomass in the Sargassum beds and seagrass beds will be analyzed.

Results and Future Plan1. Examination of the fauna and flora of intertidal rocky shores in Onagawa Bay
(1) From the results of continuous survey from 2016, coverages of Crassostrea gigas and Septifer virgatus showed increasing trends in low or middle zone.
(2) Total 165 records were uploaded in TEAMS Biological Observation Record Archive System. There was no newly recorded species.
2. Quarterly surveys of Sargassum beds and seagrass beds
(1) Biomasses of Sargassum micracanthum, Zostera marina and Z. caulescens showed the almost same trend of previous values. The peak of the biomass of S. micracanthum was in February, and minimum value was in August due to the decay of algae. Of Z. marina, the peak of biomass was in August and November, and the minimum value was in February and May. The maximum of the biomass of Z. caulescens was in February.
(2) Areas of seaweed or seagrass beds could be extracted from the photos taken by a drone with higher accuracy compared to a satellite image. However, it was difficult to distinguish seaweed area from seagrass area.
