Prediction of Climate Variations and its Application in the Southern African Region

Based on a bilateral agreement between Japan and Republic of South Africa, we commence a new type of application research collaboration aiming at preventing or reducing the risks of such extreme weather conditions as drought, heavy rains and flood. Since they manifest themselves in the associated short-term climate variations for which oceanic variability plays an important role, APL considers this activity as an important pilot study of applying our world-leading achievements so far made mainly on IOD (both tropical and sub-tropical ones) and ENSO predictions. This website is set up for the easy-to-understand display of prediction-related data used in our application studies together with our highlight research activities on our SATREPS project:
