Many parts of Africa continue to be impacted by climate extremes, such as heat waves, floods, droughts, and cyclones. This TICAD9 side event in Yokohama will focus on using climate science to mitigate the risks posed by extreme weather and infectious diseases in southern Africa. Experts from South Africa and Japan will present innovative methods for using climate data to reduce disaster risk and improve public health. Highlights will include key findings on the relationship between climate variability and diseases such as malaria and cholera, as well as case studies from two SATREPS projects and a JSPS-
NRF project. The event will present actionable recommendations to strengthen early warning systems, resilience, and coordinated responses, advancing a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for the region.
This event is free of charge and does not require advance registration.
This is a valuable opportunity to share insights from the field in Africa and deepen international cooperation.
We look forward to meeting you all there and engaging in lively discussions.
