Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) is a comprehensive research institution of marine science and technology in Japan, conducting a variety of research and development programs.

Three types of donations are available for individuals and corporations.
General Donations
This donation supports JAMSTEC’s general programs of research and development, information dissemination and publicity, and human resources development.
Designated Donations
This donation goes to a JAMSTEC program conducted under a specific theme that a contributor wants to selectively support.
Solicited Donations
A contributor selects and makes this donation for one of the themes we recruit for donors.

As soon as official procedures are completed, JAMSTEC will send you a letter of acceptance for your donation, information on the bank account for transfer of donation, and the staff in charge’s name.

If you wish to proceed with testamentary trust service provided by the financial institution affiliated with JAMSTEC, you will need to pay a handling charge and other fees predetermined by the said institution. If you make a will by notarization at a notary’s office, you will also need to pay a separate fee.

▾ Receipts
Shortly after we receive a confirmation that your donation has been transferred into our bank account, we will send you a receipt. Donation to JAMSTEC is applicable for preferential tax treatment, which you could use while filing your tax returns. Please note that when you donate by using your credit card, neither the donation reception date nor the date recorded in your credit card statement, but the date when JAMSTEC actually collects the remittance of your donation from the settlement business agent company will be imprinted on your receipt.

Handling Rules for Donations etc.
Please note that the following conditions apply for accepting donations etc.
(1) Donations etc. contribute to achievement of the primary purpose set forth in
Article 4 of the LAW CONCERNING JAPAN AGENCY FOR MARINE-EARTH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (Law No. 95 of June 18, 2003).
(2) In accepting donations etc., it shall be checked if they
are free from the following conditions.
(A) To provide the donors (including the executor and heirs in the case of bequests; the same shall apply hereinafter) with some benefit or convenience as consideration for their donations.
(B) The donor audits the accounting of the donation.
(C) The donor retains the capability of cancelling all or part of the donation, after the donation.
(D) To have the donation etc., transferred to or used by the donor free of charge.
(3) Acceptance of donations etc., has been confirmed to cause no particular burden or hindrance to the business or finances of JAMSTEC.
(4) The donor is not an organized crime group set forth in No. 2 of Article 2 of
Act on Prevention of Unjust Acts by Organized Crime Group Members (Act No. 77 of 1991), nor its member, nor corporate general meeting racketeer (
sokaiya), nor other anti-social force (hereinafter referred to as "antisocial forces") set forth in No. 6 of the said Act, and has no close relationship with such antisocial forces.
Handling of Personal Information
Regarding personal information, such as name and e-mail address entered / filled in the Online Application Form or the Donation Application Form, JAMSTEC will use it exclusively for donation acceptance tasks and will not use it for any other purpose. JAMSTEC will manage relevant personal information appropriately, in accordance with JAMSTEC's
Basic Policy on the Protection of Personal Information. If JAMSTEC needs to outsource the handling of personal information to carry out settlement operations related to acceptance of donations, JAMSTEC is going to outsource to a company only after concluding a contract with the said company and confirming that the said company can secure sufficient safety measures under the supervision of JAMSTEC.
