Job Description The Earth System Model Development and Application Group, Research Center for Environmental Modeling and Application (CEMA) is soliciting applications for a Project Senior Research Technician to participate the program, "Advanced Research Program for Climate Change Prediction". This program aims to elucidate the mechanisms of climate change, reduce the uncertainty of climate change predictions by improving climate simulation models, improve the accuracy of climate prediction data, and utilize the data in a comprehensive manner. The goal of this program is to provide scientific evidence for the development of global climate change mitigation and adaptation plans. We are presently recruiting a Project Senior Research Technician to participate in this program.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct the following tasks with the aid of shell scripts and visualization applications, based on an understanding of data server hardware/software (UNIX/Linux) and global warming simulation data from Earth system models (ESMs):
(1) Maintain and manage data servers and storage facilities (including installation, expansion, and disposal) for data essential to large-scale simulation studies using ESMs that incorporate biogeochemical (including the carbon cycle) components of global physical climate models.
(2) Conduct data conversion, registration, transfer, and other processes required for the publication of ESM simulation results.
(3) Collect simulation data from other research centers, including those overseas, and perform data formatting (file format, resolution, etc.) for analysis and data file management.

Research Technician:
Research Technician is expected to promote fundamental or comprehensive technological improvements related to research and development, maintain and upgrade these advanced technologies, and conduct research.

Project Senior Research Technician:
Project Senior Research Technician is expected to contribute to the promotion of research and development by accumulating expertise in observing devices and analytical instruments, etc. as a specialist in maintaining and operating basic technologies related to the organization’s research and development efforts.

As a dedicated person in improving, maintaining, and operating fundamental technologies related to research and development, he/she is required to propose and establish accurate analytical and analytical methods, etc. in collaboration with researchers.

*There may be a change in affiliation in the case of reorganization of the Agency.
Requirements The successful candidate must have completed a M.S. in a closely related field. Those who have equivalent ability with extensive experience are also acceptable.

*Based on an understanding of data server hardware/software (UNIX/Linux) and global warming prediction simulation data from ESM, the successful candidate will be required to utilize various shell scripts and visualization applications.

Total period will be terminated on March 31, 2027 after four contract renewals.
*First contract period is from June 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023.
*Effective date of employment is negotiable. However it might be changed due to the influence of COVID-19 expansion.
*Contract period can be renewed depending on the performance and working attitude of the successful candidate.
*Contract period might change due to budget constraints of the research program.
*In accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws, on reaching the age of 65 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.
*This position is a non-tenure-track, fixed-term employee position.
Salary Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments)
e.g., JPY 5,500,000-6,100,000

*Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC bylaw, based on the academic qualifications and demonstrated research skills of the applicant.
*Bonus and retirement allowance are included in the annual salary.
Terms of Employment (1) Upon appointment, successful candidates will receive relocation allowances in accordance with the bylaws of JAMSTEC.
(2) An allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
(3) The employee and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for social insurance and labor insurance in the proportion specified by current statute.
(4) The JAMSTEC employee cooperative provides various subsidies for mutual aid and welfare services.
(5) Housing lease service is available in accordance with the bylaws of JAMSTEC.
(6) Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end, and New Year's holidays. Annual vacations with pay, special vacations, leave of absence to care for a family member, and maternity leave are provided.
