Job Description The Climate Model Development and Application Group, Research Center for Environmental Modeling and Application (CEMA)(Director: Michio Kawamiya), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC), JAMSTEC is seeking applications for a Research Assistant position to participate in a medium- to long term research plan.

The successful candidate will support research in the development of climate and Earth system models under the direction of researchers.

(1)Support the development of climate and Earth system models on the Earth simulator.
(2)Running simulations using climate and Earth system models and managing their products and related data.
(3)Supporting the management and sharing of archived large-scale model data
(4)Development of shell scripts to support the above work
(5)Supporting other work necessary to carry out relevant research.

Job Type Research Assistant (Class 4):
To support the research conducted during the program, the Research Assistant will be expected to participate in work requiring more applied high-level knowledge and skills. The successful candidate will also be expected to propose specific measures to contribute to the mid-term goals of the department.
Requirements Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a related field or the equivalent.

Applicants should have skills and knowledge in the following areas:
(1) Experience in the development and operation of a large-scale numerical model on supercomputers.
(2) Experience in programming using Fortran, Bourne shell language on Linux and Solaris systems.
(3) Experience in managing and analyzing large-scale tempo-spatial data generated by climate models.

Working Conditions & Contract Period (1) Number of positions:
1 position for a Research Assistant

(2) Type of contract:
Fixed-term employee

(3) Working Hours:
9:00-17:30 (Lunch hours 12:15-13:00)

(4) Contract Period:
*The contract period is from April 1, 2023 to May 31, 2023.
*Effective date of employment is negotiable.
*Contract period might change due to status of the medium- to long-term research plan.
*This position is a non-tenure-track, fixed-term employee position.
Salary Hourly pay rate JPY 2,750

*Overtime payment will be added to monthly salary.
*There is no bonus and retirement allowance.
Terms of Employment (1) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided in accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws.
(2) Social insurance (Health insurance, Employee's pension insurance, Corporate pension fund, Employment insurance and Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance) will be provided, depending on the working conditions and contract period.
(3) The JAMSTEC employee cooperative provides various subsidies for mutual aid and welfare services.
(4) Housing lease service is not available.
(5) Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end, and New Year's holidays. Annual vacations with pay, special vacations, leave of absence to care for a family member, and maternity leave are provided.
