Available Position JAMSTEC is recruiting one position as a Postdoctoral Researcher. (EGP22-003)
Recruiting Department Super-cutting-edge Grand and Advanced Research (SUGAR) Program, Institute for Extra-cutting-edge Science and Technology Avant-garde Research (X-star)
Job Description We are soliciting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher who will work on the KAKENHI project, Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (A) "Development of Molecular Memory/Molecular Learning Circuits for Minimal Artificial Brain (FY2020-2024, Co-Investigator: Ken Komiya)" in the project area of "Molecular Cybernetics," and JST-RISTEX RInCA program "Development of an RRI Practice Model for Molecular Robotics Premised on Researchers Autonomy (FY2021-2024, PI: Ken Komiya)". The successful applicant will engage in the following research and development plans.

[Research Description]
The SUGAR Program of X-star in JAMSTEC conducts research to explore microorganisms in extreme environments and create artificial life functions by elucidating the functions of various microorganisms. As part of this effort, we are developing biomolecular systems that express advanced functions beyond living organisms.

We invite applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher who will work in life science research, including the creation of artificial cells and elucidation of the origin of life. In our project, a synthetic approach is encouraged, such as integrating reactions of biomolecules and enzymes to realize highly sensitive molecular detection and precise molecular manipulation, or the construction of functional molecular systems that can perform efficient information processing and molecular production in a manner similar to living organisms. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in the following works through active collaboration with researchers in JAMSTEC and other domestic and foreign institutes. The research target and approach will be flexibly determined by taking into account the applicant’s area of expertise and experience.

1) Construction of molecular circuits using DNA and enzymes, and their application to the measurement and control of cellular processes.

2) In vitro construction of artificial metabolic systems to investigate biological functions and produce useful molecules

3) Presenting the results of the research and development at academic conferences, publishing them as peer-reviewed papers, and implementing these advances in society.

[Relevant Research Fields]
Biomolecular Chemistry, Synthetic Biology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Evolutionary Molecular Engineering, µ-TAS, DNA Nanotechnology
Job Type Postdoctoral Researcher: To contribute to the projects, a Postdoctoral Researcher should be able to independently conduct the research subjects which are authorized by the Projects under direction of a leader, and to be appointed to improve their research qualities.
