Available Position Project Researcher(II), Project Research Technician(II), Project Research Technician(III) or Postdoctoral Researcher (AGM24-014)
Recruiting Department Environmental Geochemical Cycle Research Group, Earth Surface System Research Center (ESS), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC)

*There may be a change in affiliation in the event of a reorganization of JAMSTEC.
Job Description We are promoting the research project, "Comprehensive Study and Monitoring of Long-lived Greenhouse Gases and Short-lived Climate Forcers toward Mitigation of Climate Change (hereinafter referred to as the S-22 Project)", funded by the Ministry of Environment of Japan (MOEJ), and is engaged in elucidating emission and removal of greenhouse gases on the Earth's surface by the anthropogenic and/or natural processes. We use global and regional atmospheric chemistry-transport models and high-quality measurements from in situ platforms and moderately precise satellite observations with global coverage, with an aim to generate high-quality climate change prediction data in collaboration with other centers at JAMSTEC.

We are now accepting applications for one position such as a Project Researcher etc. to work on the S-22 Project Theme 2(2) “Estimation of GHG balance and mechanisms of change using top-down approach (FY2024-FY2028, PI:Prabir Patra) as follows.

[Research Description]
(Immediately upon employment)
We are now accepting applications for a Project Researcher(II), Project Research Technician(II), Project Research Technician(III) or Postdoctoral Researcher. The project involves collaborative research with other themes of the S-22 project at JAMSTEC and other universities and institutions.
The successful candidate for positions in research will conduct research aimed at obtaining scientific knowledge on historical changes of greenhouse gases in the global environment during their respective measurement period (circa 1950s onward). We prepare land/ocean to air fluxes at regional scales using global models by top-down inverse modelling. However, the anthropogenic and natural share of these fluxes are largely uncertain and uncertainties remained toward policy implementation of emission reductions under the Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement. Further the inverse modelling results at lower uncertainty are required for evaluation of biogeochemical processes in Earth System Models (ESMs) by other theme for better prediction Earth's climate for the IPCC's 7th Assessment Report.
The successful Research Technician candidate will support the development of inverse modelling tools and model infrastructures (contributions to these activities by the Researcher candidate will also be welcomed).
